Yucatán government faces scrutiny over land purchase and Tren Maya donation
The government of Yucatán is facing scrutiny over the purchase of land in Poxilá, Umán, involving significant discrepancies in reported financial figures. While the state government maintains that two purchases totaling 627.2 million pesos were made for 290.27 hectares, official registry documents initially recorded a transaction value of over 2.418 billion pesos for a single plot (tablaje 6961-D).
A recent registry rectification adjusted the amount for that specific plot from 2.418 billion pesos down to approximately 245.1 million pesos. This administrative correction has led opposition legislators, academics, and business representatives to demand transparency regarding the appraisals, the determination of price per square meter, and the specific budget lines used for these operations.
Of the total land acquired, the state government confirmed that 56.5 hectares, valued at 125.3 million pesos, were donated to the Tren Maya freight project following a local congress approval. The remaining 233.77 hectares are intended to serve as a territorial reserve for future state investment projects.
