Yucatán Governor Joaquín Díaz Mena launches autism support commission
Governor Joaquín Díaz Mena of the Mexican state of Yucatán installed the Intersecretarial Commission for the Attention and Protection of Autistic Persons and inaugurated the first Sensory Regulation Room in the state government palace. The actions follow the recent entry into force of the Yucatán Law for the Attention, Protection and Inclusion of Autistic Persons, which was approved unanimously by the state congress after extensive public consultation.
During the ceremony, the governor and Wendy Méndez Naal, Honorary President of the Yucatán DIF system, announced that construction of a State Autism Center will begin in the coming days. The center will expand diagnostic, therapeutic and comprehensive support services for thousands of autistic individuals and their families across the state.
