Yucatán investigation faces scrutiny over Negrillo boat death
Questions are mounting regarding the investigation into the death of a young woman, Daniela, who died after falling from the boat ‘Negrillo’ near the coast of Progreso on July 25. Her family and legal counsel have raised concerns over inconsistencies in the probe conducted by the State Attorney General's Office.
Key allegations include that the vessel arrived at the prosecutor's office cleaned and without bloodstains, and that authorities initially withheld the identities of the six passengers. The victim's mother, Norma Pimentel, and her lawyer have challenged the theory that Daniela jumped from the boat, calling for scientific evidence and full testimonies.
Three of the six passengers have been identified as members of influential political and business families in Yucatán. These include Miguel Ángel Gutiérrez Solís, a member of the PAN state leadership; Felipe Ávila Lubcke, linked to the construction firm Pyrgos; and Andrea Molina Espinosa, from a construction business family. All six passengers were summoned to testify but have exercised their constitutional right to remain silent.
