Investigation into fatal boat accident in Progreso

A fatal boating accident occurred near the port of Progreso, Yucatán, involving a recreational vessel named ‘El Negrillo’. A 28-year-old tourist from Mexicali, identified as Daniela, fell into the sea while the boat was in motion and was struck by its propeller. Despite receiving emergency medical care at a hospital in Mérida, she later died from severe injuries.

Following the incident, the investigation conducted by the State Attorney General's Office has faced significant scrutiny. The victim’s family and legal counsel have alleged inconsistencies in the probe, claiming the vessel arrived at the prosecutor's office cleaned and without bloodstains. They have also challenged the theory that the victim jumped from the boat, requesting scientific evidence and full testimonies.

Public interest has intensified following reports that three of the six passengers on board are members of influential political and business families in Yucatán. While all six passengers were summoned to testify, they have exercised their constitutional right to remain silent.
