Yucatán judge bans injurious tools in Muna bullfights

A federal judge in Yucatán has issued a provisional suspension prohibiting the use of weapons or tools that cause pain, injury, bleeding, or suffering to bulls during scheduled bullfights in Muna. The ruling applies to events planned for August 22 and 23 as part of the town’s Traditional Festival.

The injunction, prompted by animal rights organizations Animal Heroes and PETA Latino, forbids the use of swords, banderillas, rejones, puyas, or any other objects that could cause undue stress or physical harm. The court determined that bullfights may only proceed under conditions that guarantee animals are not subjected to mistreatment.

This marks the third such resolution in Yucatán, following similar rulings in Tixkokob and Temozón. Alicia Aguayo, director of PETA Latino, stated that these consecutive rulings demonstrate that animal protection is a legal obligation derived from the Constitution and federal laws rather than a passing trend.
