Yucatán leaders announce major industrial and infrastructure projects
During the fifth edition of the MUUK ‘The South in Motion 2026’ forum at Universidad Anáhuac Mayab, regional leaders outlined major industrial and infrastructure projects aimed at driving economic growth in Yucatán.
Governor Joaquín Díaz Mena presented the ‘Renacimiento Maya’ vision, highlighting strategic investments to boost employment and connectivity. Key projects include the expansion and modernization of the Port of Progreso, which involves a 12.225 billion peso investment to accommodate larger vessels. Other initiatives include the 25 billion peso Cargo Maya Train, the development of industrial corridors, and two new power plants in Mérida and Valladolid. Additionally, the Cuxtal II gas pipeline represents a 2.1 billion dollar investment to secure natural gas supplies for the region.
Mérida Mayor Cecilia Patrón Laviada emphasized the city's role as an investment hub, noting that the metropolitan area accounts for approximately 75 percent of the state's economic activity. She highlighted urban planning, innovation, and citizen participation as pillars of the city's transformation, mentioning that over 9,000 people participated in updating urban regulations.
