Yucatán Peninsula sees summer Tren Maya discounts and extreme heat forecast
The Mexican government announced discount schemes for the Tren Maya during the summer of 2026. Eligible travelers include seniors with a valid INAPAM credential, children and minors with family rates, students (especially during school breaks), and local residents in certain regional campaigns. Promotions are subject to ticket availability and official guidelines, and travelers are advised to verify credentials and purchase tickets through official channels.
The National Meteorological Service warned that the Yucatán Peninsula will experience intense heat this weekend. Temperatures are expected to reach a high of 38.3 °C in Mérida on Saturday and up to 40 °C by Sunday across the region, with medium cloud cover and winds of 9‑17 km/h. Coastal cities such as Cancún and Chetumal will be slightly cooler but will feel the humidity. Authorities recommend staying hydrated, avoiding prolonged sun exposure, wearing light clothing, and protecting vulnerable groups such as children, seniors and pets.
