Yucatán reports 11% increase in HIV diagnoses in 2026

Yucatán has recorded an 11% increase in HIV diagnoses through the 29th epidemiological week of 2026, reaching a total of 353 cases compared to 318 during the same period in 2025. This growth rate exceeds the national average increase of approximately 2%.

In Yucatán, nearly 60% of cases were identified in clinical stage 1. Data also indicates a significant rise in other sexually transmitted infections, including a 168.1% increase in syphilis cases reported up to week 26.

The regional situation varies across the peninsula. While Quintana Roo has the highest total number of diagnoses at 627, it has seen a slight decrease compared to the previous year. Conversely, Campeche reported a 29% decrease in total cases, but health officials noted a concerning trend where nearly one in five patients is detected at the most advanced clinical stage (stage 4).
