Respiratory illnesses also surged during the summer. For the week of July 27 to August 3, Yucatán and Quintana Roo emerged as leaders in influenza cases. By mid-August, Quintana Roo ranked second nationally for influenza cases during the 2026 interseasonal period, with 57 confirmed cases accounting for 14.2% of the national total. One death has been attributed to influenza A(H3N2). In Benito Juárez, local health officials noted that respiratory illnesses have increased to represent approximately 20% of medical consultations, up from the usual 10% to 15%.

The tourism sector remained under pressure due to an influx of over 83,000 tonnes of sargazo. Hotel occupancy in Quintana Roo averaged below 60% in early July, with small hotels in Playa del Carmen dropping to 32%. Business leaders and federal officials continue to discuss recovery measures, including proposed temporary unemployment insurance for workers.
