Yucatán reports 327 new HIV diagnoses in first half of 2026

The state of Yucatán recorded 327 confirmed HIV infections between January and June 2026, according to the week‑26 epidemiological bulletin of the National Epidemiological Surveillance System (SINAVE). This represents an increase of 67 cases, or 25.8%, compared with the same period in 2025. Men accounted for about 90% of the new diagnoses, with 293 male patients and 34 female patients.

Yucatán ranks second in the Yucatán Peninsula for new HIV cases, behind Quintana Roo, which reported 515 infections, while Campeche logged 72. The total for the peninsula reached 608 cases in the first half of the year. Health officials note that expanded testing coverage may explain part of the rise, but they stress that HIV remains a major public‑health challenge and call for stronger prevention, timely diagnosis and stigma reduction efforts.
