Yucatán tourism authorities prepare for winter season

David Escalante Lombard, director of the Patronato de las Unidades de Servicios Culturales y Turísticos del Estado de Yucatán (Cultur), announced that tourism sites are prepared for the upcoming winter vacation season. Key locations, including El Corchito in Progreso and the Meteorite Museum in Chicxulub Puerto, are operating normally and are equipped to handle expected visitor numbers.

Addressing concerns from artisans and guides at the Chichén Itzá archaeological zone, Escalante Lombard stated that there are no serious conflicts and that communication with both sectors remains open. Regarding reports of an 80 percent drop in artisan sales, the official attributed the decline to atypical tourism patterns and reduced visitor flow from Quintana Roo destinations like Cancún, Playa del Carmen, and Tulum, rather than issues with the Visitor Attention Center (Catvi).

In a separate regional development, the Southeast Tourism Caravan 2026 arrived in Mérida, Yucatán. Led by Alberto Zurita del Rivero, president of the Mexican Association of Hotels and Motels of Tabasco, the initiative aims to promote Tabasco’s natural, cultural, and gastronomic attractions while strengthening commercial alliances between the two southeastern Mexican states.
