Yucatán tourism and gastronomy development

Overview

Yucatán is actively promoting its international profile through specialized summits and regional collaborations. The Love México 2026 summit brought together over 300 professionals from 17 countries to establish commercial alliances for the destination wedding industry. Concurrently, the Mérida Gastronomic Institute held its Second Gastronomy Congress 2026, focusing on culinary innovation and achieving accreditation as an associate partner of the International Organization of Gastronomy, Hospitality, and Tourism.

As the winter vacation season approaches, local authorities have confirmed that major tourism sites, such as El Corchito and the Meteorite Museum, are prepared for visitor influxes. While officials noted a decline in artisan sales at Chichén Itzá, they attributed this to atypical tourism patterns and reduced visitor flow from nearby Quintana Roo destinations rather than internal conflicts. Additionally, the Southeast Tourism Caravan 2026 arrived in Mérida to strengthen commercial ties and promote natural and cultural attractions between Yucatán and Tabasco.
