Yuen Long dog attack kills two small pets at YOHO

A large brown dog, weighing approximately 60 kilograms, killed two small dogs during an attack at YOHO in Yuen Long on August 17, 2026. The victims included a 17-year-old miniature poodle and a 4-year-old bichon frise. Witnesses reported that the large dog, which was not wearing a muzzle or a lead at the time of the attack, repeatedly gripped the smaller animals by the neck.

Following the incident, the Agriculture, Fisheries and Conservation Department (AFCD) arrested the owner of the large dog on August 18. Investigations revealed that the same dog had been involved in a similar incident on July 10, where it attacked a corgi at the same location. In that previous instance, the dog was detained and subsequently released to its owner with a warning regarding leash requirements.

The dog is currently being held at an animal management center for observation. The AFCD is investigating both incidents and stated it will pursue prosecution if sufficient evidence is found. The event has sparked local discussions regarding the adequacy of current regulations for large dog control and the necessity of mandatory muzzling in public spaces.
