Yunlin County launches Guardian Communication Network for disaster resilience
The Yunlin County Government has officially launched the ‘Guardian Communication Network,’ a disaster backup communication system designed to maintain connectivity during extreme weather and complex disasters. The project, which involved an investment of 30 million TWD, was inaugurated on the 21st by County Magistrate Chang Li-shan.
In collaboration with Chunghwa Telecom, the network connects 20 township and city offices with disaster relief units. The system features 30 communication stations, consisting of 22 primary backbone stations and 8 secondary reinforcement stations located in high-risk areas such as mountainous, remote, and coastal regions.
To prevent ‘information islands’ caused by power outages or network failures, the network integrates microwave, digital radio, satellite communications, and video mechanisms. Each station is equipped with energy storage and backup power to ensure both communication and energy resilience. This initiative has already received recognition from the Taiwan Sustainable Action Awards and the Asia Pacific Sustainable Action Awards.
