Yuri Nakamura, Japanese-Korean actress, dies at 44
Japanese-Korean actress Yuri Nakamura has died at the age of 44 following a long battle with rectal cancer. Her agency, Alpha Agency, announced on September 14 that she passed away on September 1.
Nakamura had previously been diagnosed with cancer 13 years ago, but chose to keep the diagnosis private to avoid causing concern among her colleagues. After entering remission, the cancer recurred in January 2025. Although she underwent successful surgery, the disease subsequently metastasized, leading doctors to focus on managing her quality of life rather than a complete cure.
Nakamura was widely recognized for her roles in various films and television series, including the Netflix production ‘Romantics Anonymous’ and the film ‘Pacchigi! Love & Peace’. Her career spanned nearly three decades, beginning in music as part of the duo YuriMari before transitioning to acting.
Colleagues and industry peers, including actor Ryohei Suzuki, have expressed their grief, praising her strength, professionalism, and talent. Nakamura spent her final moments surrounded by her family and loved ones.
