Death of actress Yuri Nakamura

Overview

Japanese-South Korean actress Yuri Nakamura has died at the age of 44 following a long battle with rectal cancer. Her agency, Alpha Agency, confirmed she passed away on September 1.

Nakamura had been managing the disease for 13 years, having previously kept her diagnosis private to avoid concern among colleagues. While she had entered remission in the past, the cancer recurred in January 2025. Despite a successful surgery, the disease later metastasized. In August, she suffered an intestinal obstruction and was informed she had little time remaining.

Nakamura’s career spanned nearly three decades, beginning in music with the duo YuriMari in 1996 before transitioning to acting. She was widely recognized for her roles in films such as ‘Pacchigi! Love & Peace’ and the Netflix series ‘Romantics Anonymous’. Following her death, industry figures including Matsumoto Wakana, Ishida Yuriko, and Tsuchiya Tao shared tributes praising her talent, kindness, and professional dedication. She passed away surrounded by her family and loved ones.
