Huité, Guatemala: At least seven killed in armed attacks

At least seven to eight people were killed during a series of armed attacks in Huité, Zacapa, on Sunday, September 27. The violence involved multiple crime scenes, including a vehicle where three women were found dead and various locations in the El Campo neighborhood and La Oscurana village. Investigators recovered 77 ballistic indicators from the scenes.

Local residents and families have accused the state of involvement, citing videos of armed men in military-style clothing and reports of helicopters firing. Some family members alleged that the attacks targeted innocent civilians who were defenseless. However, the Guatemalan Army has denied any participation, stating that the men seen in videos were not military personnel and attributing the violence to territorial disputes between transnational organized crime groups. The military also stated it chose not to enter the immediate area during the confrontation to avoid escalating the conflict.

Interior Minister Marco Antonio Villeda ruled out police involvement and stated that investigations are ongoing to determine the exact circumstances and whether any allied forces were involved. The National Civil Police (PNC) is investigating the possibility that these actions were planned by criminal structures to create regional instability.
