Zacatecas police officer killed in bomb attack, two injured
A bomb attack on state police officers in the municipality of Luis Moya, Zacatecas, left one officer dead and two seriously injured. The explosion was reported early on Saturday, and the victims were taken to a hospital in the state capital. Authorities, including Secretary of Government Rodrigo Reyes Mugüerza, launched a large‑scale security operation along roads and communities near the border with Aguascalientes to locate the suspects, who fled in that direction.
The incident occurred during the ongoing Operativo Rastrillo, a security sweep launched in mid‑July to curb violence in the state. The following morning, a second clash resulted in the deaths of five armed civilians who had engaged forces of the Immediate Reaction Force and the State Construction of Peace. Governor David Monreal ordered reinforcement of the operation and expressed condolences for the fallen officer.
Both events underscore heightened insecurity in the region and have prompted intensified police and federal deployments.
