Mexican states highlight police graduations and falling homicide rates

Veracruz held a ceremony in Emiliano Zapata to graduate 49 new police officers – 30 men and 19 women – with five assigned to municipal directorates in Coatzacoalcos, Orizaba, Tlacolulán and Chinampa de Gorostiza. State officials linked the graduation to a broader strategy that helped Veracruz record its lowest deliberate homicide rate in 13 years, and to the dismantling of nine criminal cells, the arrest of 11 priority targets, and the seizure of more than half a million illicit drug doses.

Governor Samuel García Sepúlveda of Nuevo León said the state now has "first‑world" security institutions and highlighted an 82% drop in high‑impact crimes, crediting coordinated efforts among state, federal and municipal authorities. He noted FIFA's recognition of Nuevo León as one of the safest venues for the 2026 World Cup.

Secretary of Security Omar García Harfuch reported that homicide numbers are falling across 29 Mexican states, with Sinaloa's daily homicides now down to 10‑12. He said the deployment of the Mexican Army and the Secretariat of Defense is advancing a pacification plan for the state.
