Mexico universal health credential rollout

Overview

In July 2026 Mexico continued its rollout of a national Health Credential aimed at integrating public health services. By July 24 the program had registered more than 52,800 older adults and people with disabilities in the state of Tamaulipas, issuing physical IDs and QR‑coded digital records that grant access to any public health unit.

A few days later, on July 29, the effort expanded to Zacatecas, where over 58,800 residents completed registration. The credential, promoted by President Claudia Sheinbaum and managed by state delegates, links beneficiaries to nearby IMSS, ISSSTE, IMSS‑Bienestar or PEMEX facilities and promises free care, future medication access from 2027, and an electronic medical record. Both snapshots illustrate the program’s rapid, multi‑state deployment to improve health access for seniors and persons with disabilities as part of Mexico’s broader universal health service strategy.
