Zacatecas security forces targeted by explosives

Security forces in Zacatecas, Mexico, were targeted by explosive devices on Thursday morning near the community of San Luis in the municipality of Tabasco. The attack occurred as officers were traveling to Jalpa to conduct search warrants.

Two state police officers sustained minor injuries during the incident. Authorities reported that at least two improvised explosive devices detonated, causing damage to security vehicles. Following the explosions, a heavy exchange of gunfire occurred between law enforcement and organized crime members, with confrontations reportedly extending into the municipalities of Villanueva and Calvillo.

As a result of the violence and the presence of unexploded devices on the roadway, the National Guard temporarily closed Federal Highway 54, a key route connecting Zacatecas with Guadalajara. Governor David Monreal Ávila stated the aggression was likely a reaction to recent intelligence operations in the southern canyon region. Authorities have advised the public to avoid the area until further notice.
