Zacatecas sees 12% drop in teenage pregnancies in 2025

The state of Zacatecas reported a 12 percent reduction in teenage pregnancies for 2025, with 2,648 cases among 15‑ to 19‑year‑olds compared with 2,982 in 2024. The decline is attributed to preventive actions by the Grupo Estatal para Prevenir el Embarazo en Adolescentes (Gepea) under the Agenda del Progreso of Governor David Monreal Ávila.

Gepea coordinator María Elena Pérez Ortiz highlighted strengthened prevention efforts, especially for girls aged 10‑14. The municipality of Fresnillo recorded the highest number of births (483), followed by Guadalupe (312). Zacatecas, Ojocaliente, Calera and Villa de Cos together accounted for 537 cases, while Susticacán reported none and El Plateado de Joaquín Amaro and Mezquital del Oro each reported a single case. The state government urged minors and families to continue preventive measures to protect health and future opportunities.
