Zach Cregge discusses Resident Evil film approach and casting

Director Zach Cregge has discussed his approach to the new Resident Evil film, titled ‘The Hive’ (A Kaptár) in some regions. Rather than a direct adaptation of specific game plots or lore, Cregge aimed to capture the atmospheric experience of playing the Resident Evil games. The film is set around the timeframe of the Resident Evil 2 outbreak in Raccoon City and features elements associated with the Umbrella Corporation.

While the film does not include the character Lady Dimitrescu, Cregge identified Christina Hendricks as his ideal choice for the role if he were to cast her in a future project.

Critics and viewers have noted that the film incorporates several subtle nods to the Capcom franchise, including visual references to save items, healing sprays, green herbs, and specific ammunition boxes reminiscent of Resident Evil 4. The film also features a scene involving an infected dog that mirrors iconic moments from the original game series.
