Zack Wheeler reaches 2,000 career strikeouts and Phillies record

Philadelphia Phillies pitcher Zack Wheeler reached a major career milestone during a game against the Milwaukee Brewers. By striking out Brice Turang in the first inning, Wheeler recorded his 2,000th career strikeout, making him the 96th pitcher in MLB history to reach that mark.

Wheeler also set a new Phillies franchise record by recording seven consecutive strikeouts to begin a game, surpassing the previous record of six set by Brandon Duckworth in August 2002.

Following his recovery from thoracic outlet syndrome surgery in late 2025, Wheeler has maintained a strong 2026 season. Through 26 starts, he holds a 13-5 record with a 2.99 ERA and a 1.06 WHIP.
