Zadar begins third phase of Gradska straža monument restoration

Restoration work has commenced on the 16th-century Gradska straža monument in Zadar. The project, which includes the Ethnological Department of the National Museum Zadar, is expected to keep the premises closed until the end of 2026.

This third phase of renovation focuses on cleaning and repairing the perimeter wall and stone elements, as well as restoring the iron fence. The Ministry of Culture and Media has allocated 44,100 euros for these construction, restoration, and finishing works as part of a public call for cultural needs in Croatia for 2026.

Previous stages of the project addressed issues with rainwater penetration and the cleaning of stone elements using high-pressure water and sandblasting. Earlier phases also included repainting the bell tower, clock, and parts of the side facades. Other heritage projects in Zadar, including works on the Church of St. Donatus, St. Dominic, and St. Simeon, are part of a broader 905,000 euro investment in local heritage restoration.
