Heritage restoration projects in Zadar

Overview

Zadar is undertaking various initiatives to preserve and renovate its historical and cultural heritage.

One major project involves the third phase of restoration for the 16th-century Gradska straža monument. Supported by the Ministry of Culture and Media with 44,100 euros, this phase focuses on repairing the perimeter wall, stone elements, and the iron fence. The site is expected to remain closed until the end of 2026. This follows previous efforts to address rainwater penetration and clean stone elements.

In a broader effort to improve the city’s historical center, the City of Zadar has launched a renovation program for facades and courtyards. The Department for Culture and Sports has allocated 300,000 euros to co-finance these improvements, with individual applicants eligible for up to 30,000 euros to cover costs such as cleaning, painting, and restoring stone features.
