Zadar joins candidacy for Council of Europe Cultural Route
The city of Zadar is part of a candidacy for the Council of Europe’s ‘Cultural Route’ certification. The ‘Places of Peace’ network, which includes Zadar, is seeking this status to promote transnational cooperation through shared cultural programs.
One of the key sites in this candidacy is the St. Francis Monastery, a location historically linked to the signing of the Peace of Zadar in 1358. The ‘Places of Peace’ route consists of seven sites across six European countries and currently holds the European Heritage Label.
The candidacy will be officially presented on September 25, 2026, at the 15th Annual Advisory Forum of the Council of Europe’s Cultural Routes in Yerevan, Armenia. The initiative aims to foster dialogue, youth education, and sustainable cultural tourism by connecting locations associated with historical peace agreements.
