Zagreb Airport reaches 4 million passengers and unveils new sculpture

Franjo Tuđman International Airport in Zagreb has welcomed its fourth million passenger of the year, reaching the milestone earlier than in previous years. The concessionaire, Međunarodna zračna luka Zagreb (MZLZ), noted that passenger traffic is currently nearly 40 percent higher than in 2019, positioning the airport as one of the fastest-growing in Europe for hubs of its size.

To manage this growth, the airport has announced plans for terminal expansion. MZLZ attributed its success to a balanced traffic structure consisting of business, tourism, and visiting friends and relatives (VFR) travel, which provides lower seasonality compared to purely tourist-driven destinations. The airport also highlighted the recent establishment of an Air China route between Beijing and Zagreb as a key factor in strengthening international connectivity.

Additionally, the airport has unveiled a new sculpture titled ‘Freedom Forward’ by American artist Brendan Murphy. Located in front of the arrivals terminal, the artwork was presented in collaboration with the U.S. Embassy in Zagreb to symbolize international cooperation and cultural exchange.
