Croatia rail and tram services disrupted by July construction

From 17 to 19 July, extensive works on the Dugo Selo–Križevci railway line will cause major disruptions on the rail corridor between Dugo Selo, Sesvete, Vrbovec and Prečec. Several train services will be cancelled and replaced by substitute buses, with longer travel times expected. Modernised automatic safety devices will be commissioned at multiple level‑crossings along the route.

ZET announced that tram lines 4, 5, 14 and 17 will run on altered routes between 17 July evening and 20 July morning while a temporary south‑bound track on Ulica grada Vukovara is opened. The changes affect the Savski most‑Savska corridor and suspend service at the Zagrepčanka stop.

Additional tram work at the intersection of Zvonimirova and Šubićeva streets in Zagreb began on 17 July and will continue until mid‑August, detouring line 7 via Držićeva, Branimirova and other streets. The €1.1 million upgrade will replace about 270 m of tram track to improve safety and reliability.

Separately, the Croatian government signed a €67 million contract with KONČAR for six battery‑powered passenger trains and a hybrid charging station, funded largely by EU recovery funds. The new trains, slated for delivery by early 2029, will replace aging diesel units on non‑electrified lines in northern Croatia, boosting speed and reducing emissions.
