Zagreb drunk driver sentenced for traffic crash
A 23‑year‑old man drove a personal vehicle on Savska Road in Zagreb while under the influence of 1.46 g/kg of alcohol. He failed to stay in the correct lane, entered a tram track and collided with a tramway embankment, causing material damage. The driver was taken to a special detention room until the effects of the intoxicant wore off and then brought before the Zagreb Municipal Court. The court found him guilty, imposed a fine of €980 and ordered a one‑month suspension of his B‑category driving licence.
The incident occurred on 2 August 2026 in the Trešnjevka district and was recorded by police and traffic cameras. The driver was also charged with a traffic violation and faced a possible additional fine of €2,310, though the final penalty was the €980 fine and the temporary driving ban.
