Zagreb Mayor addresses ZET labor crisis and infrastructure updates
Zagreb Mayor Tomislav Tomašević has described the situation at the city's public transport company, ZET, as "urgent." He noted that the collective agreement is currently not in effect, meaning salaries and other material rights are being paid out based on unilateral decisions by the company's management. Negotiations for a new agreement are ongoing, with further details to be released by unions and the company when available.
Regarding city infrastructure, the overpass at the intersection of Zagrebačka Avenue and Selska Street has reopened to traffic following five months of extensive structural renovations and repairs. Deputy Mayor Luka Korlaet stated the project, costing over 2 million euros excluding VAT, involved more than cosmetic work, effectively creating a new, safer structure. Drivers are advised to return to previous traffic patterns, as the temporary regulations used during construction are no longer in effect.
Additionally, Tomašević addressed the management of the Jakuševec landfill, noting a new four-year framework agreement with a group of bidders led by the company HIS. While costs have increased due to inflation and higher maintenance standards following previous landslides, the Mayor emphasized the goal of building a dedicated waste management center to reduce reliance on private firms. He also commented on the illegal landfill in the Ježdovec forest, labeling the long-standing activity as "organized crime" and stating that remediation cannot begin until the illegal dumping is halted.
