Zagreb tramway line on Zvonimirova Street begins major reconstruction

The City of Zagreb and public transport operator ZET have started a two‑phase reconstruction of one of the oldest and busiest tram sections on Zvonimirova Street. The works, valued at about €3 million, began on 15 June 2026 and are scheduled to finish by 7 September 2026. Phase 1 covers the stretch from Trg žrtava fašizma to Heinzelova Street, while Phase 2 focuses on the intersection with Pavla Šubića Street.

The renovation involves removing old rails and deteriorated track structures, excavating and preparing the sub‑soil, installing a new reinforced‑concrete slab, laying new tracks and modernising the fastening system. Contractors led by OLM infra, together with partners P.G.P. and Sitolor, are carrying out the works. Upon completion, the tram line is expected to operate with reduced noise and vibration, improving safety and reliability for passengers.

During construction, tram services are being rerouted, and temporary traffic changes are in place to minimise disruption for commuters.
