Zagreb University Faculty of Pharmacy and Biochemistry building reopens

The renovated building of the Faculty of Pharmacy and Biochemistry (FBF) on Kovačićeva Street in Zagreb has officially reopened following damage sustained during the 2020 earthquake. The renovation cost 20 million euros and is a central component of the 23 million euro ‘reSTART Pharma’ infrastructure project, which also included the earlier renovation of the faculty building on Schrottova Street.

FBF Dean Zrinka Rajić noted that the reopening allows for the reunification of teaching and scientific research activities at the main address after more than three years of operating from temporary locations. She emphasized that functional, technically equipped, and safe laboratory spaces are essential for training future pharmacists and medical biochemists.

University of Zagreb Rector Stjepan Lakušić described the renovation as highly demanding, noting that contracts with designers were terminated at one point to ensure the final facilities met European safety and technical standards. A project to reconstruct and equip a third faculty building on Domagojeva Street has also been submitted for funding.
