University of Zagreb post-earthquake building renovations
Overview
The University of Zagreb is completing several major infrastructure projects to restore and modernize facilities damaged during the 2020 earthquake.
In mid-October, the Faculty of Science reopened its renovated Biology Department building. The restoration, costing nearly 25 million euros, focused on preserving the 130-year-old structure while improving seismic resistance, energy efficiency, and accessibility. The project was funded through the state budget, the National Recovery and Resilience Plan, and the EU Solidarity Fund.
By late October, the Faculty of Pharmacy and Biochemistry reopened its building on Kovačićeva Street. This 20 million euro renovation is part of the ‘reSTART Pharma’ infrastructure project. The reopening allows the faculty to reunite teaching and research activities at its main address after more than three years of operating from temporary locations. University officials noted that the project required high technical standards to ensure safe and functional laboratory spaces.
