Zaim Imamović: Commemorating the legendary commander
October 9 marks the anniversary of the death of Zaim Imamović, a prominent military commander during the Bosnian War. Imamović, who held the rank of major and commanded the 14th Division of the First Corps of the Army of the Republic of Bosnia and Herzegovina, was killed by shellfire on Mount Treskavica near Rogoj.
His death occurred in 1995, just two days before a permanent ceasefire was established in Bosnia and Herzegovina. At the time, he was involved in final operations to connect Sarajevo and Goražde.
Imamović began his military career in the Yugoslav People's Army (JNA) as a captain before joining the Territorial Defense in April 1992. He played a significant role in the defense of Goražde and was a key organizer of Operation “Krug” in 1992, which liberated parts of Goražde, Foča, and Rogatica. He was posthumously awarded the “Golden Lily,” the highest wartime recognition, and a military barracks in Pazarić is named in his honor.
