Celta de Vigo prioritizes Europa League over major player sales

Celta de Vigo's sporting director, Marco Garcés, has detailed the club's strategy following the summer transfer window. The club has opted for a balanced and competitive squad despite a decrease in total market value, which fell from approximately 190.2 million euros last season to 173 million euros. This depreciation is attributed to the departure of high-value players such as Fer López, Óscar Mingueza, and Hugo Sotelo, whose exits were not fully offset by the 29 million euros in new signings.

Financially, the club is managing a lower salary limit. While LaLiga may authorize spending above 85 million euros, Celta has decided to cap its expenditure at around 80 million euros. This decision leaves a margin for upcoming player contract renewals.

Rather than pursuing a major player sale to balance the books, the club's leadership—including Garcés, Claudio Giráldez, and Marián Mouriño—has decided to bet on sporting success in the Europa League. They believe a strong campaign in the competition could generate the necessary revenue to avoid being forced into significant player sales in future windows.
