Poland tourism and energy sectors see seasonal shifts and price rises

Poland is experiencing significant shifts in its tourism and energy sectors as the summer season concludes. In the Podhale region, including Zakopane, tourism reached record levels in mid-August, with high occupancy rates and long queues at major attractions. Despite the end of the holiday weekend, many tourist areas maintain high occupancy, with businesses in Zakopane already preparing for the autumn season by converting facilities for conferences and senior groups.

To stimulate regional travel, government-backed tourism voucher programs are being introduced. One program targets seniors and Large Family Card holders in eastern regions like Mazury and Podlasie, offering up to 600 PLN. Another program in Warmia-Masuria provides 300 PLN electronic vouchers for seniors and families, with specific rules requiring direct bookings at participating facilities.

In the energy sector, pellet prices have risen significantly, increasing by approximately 55% compared to last year. The Ministry of Climate and Environment attributes this to increased demand driven by the ‘Clean Air’ program, which has doubled the number of subsidized pellet boilers, as well as high consumption during a recent harsh winter. Meanwhile, the Office of Competition and Consumer Protection (UOKiK) has warned travelers against manipulative ‘last minute’ online booking tactics, such as artificial countdown timers and misleading availability claims.
