Polish tourism and hospitality trends
Overview
The Polish tourism and hospitality sector has maintained strong performance through the summer, characterized by high occupancy and rising prices. Data from the Polish Chamber of Hospitality (IGHP) shows that 85% of hotels reported occupancy levels above 50%, with 51% exceeding 70%. The leisure segment has been particularly robust, with 92% of leisure-oriented hotels reporting occupancy over 50%. This demand has driven a pricing trend where 62% of hotels reported higher rates compared to the previous year. As the summer season concludes, the Podhale region, including Zakopane, has reached record levels of tourism. To sustain momentum, businesses are transitioning facilities for autumn conferences and senior groups. Government-backed voucher programs are also being utilized to stimulate regional travel; while Warmia-Masuria offers 300 PLN electronic vouchers, new programs in Mazury and Podlasie target seniors and Large Family Card holders with vouchers of up to 600 PLN. Recent trends indicate a shift toward shorter, regional trips. In Lower Silesia, destinations such as Wrocław and the Karkonosze mountains are benefiting from travelers opting for two-to-three-day stays. While August weekend bookings were 33% lower than the previous year due to the calendar layout, the overall summer season saw a 24% increase in reservations. Wrocław reported over 7 million visitors in 2025, with spending estimated at nearly 5 billion PLN. To extend the tourist season, a pilot program by the Ministry of Sport and Tourism is launching electronic vouchers worth 300 PLN for stays of at least two nights in the Podkarpackie and Lubelskie voivodeships. Legislative developments are now targeting municipal revenue through a proposed “tourist-compensation fee” in the Sejm. Introduced by the PSL and Third Way parties, the proposal would allow municipalities to collect fees regardless of specific landscape or climatic requirements.
