Zakopane unveils 300 summer events as Polish towns upgrade municipal facilities
On 1 July, Zakopane’s mayor Łukasz Filipowicz opened the summer season, announcing more than 300 cultural and sporting events scheduled for the 66‑day holiday period. The town reported a record‑high budget surplus for 2025 and introduced two new municipal bus lines (13 and 18) operated by a private carrier, along with a new BMC bus and plans to acquire electric 12‑metre buses. A decade‑long landscape resolution took effect, imposing fines of up to PLN 9,000 monthly for illegal signage, while the disputed "Wioska Smerfów" project was referred to the county building inspectorate.
Separately, the mayor of another Polish town, Iwona Kublik, inspected municipal investments, noting the near‑completion of a modernised city nursery slated to open on 1 September and ongoing renovation of a covered swimming pool on Bulwar street. The next phase includes a tender for HVAC and ventilation systems for the pool complex.
