Zakynthos opposition blames municipal council for planning failures and budget revisions

The municipal opposition group “Δύναμη Ελπίδας” released a statement condemning the Zakynthos municipality for a lack of answers and planning. It highlighted the two most recent council meetings – a regular session and an extraordinary session it helped trigger with the “Αρετή και Τόλμη για τη Ζάκυνθο” group – as evidence of ongoing disorganisation.

The opposition voted to amend the municipal budget for a second time only two months after its approval, arguing that the original budget was drafted without serious planning and is now being constantly altered. In the extraordinary session it raised several critical local issues: the “Ναυάγιο” project funded with €500,000 despite the road belonging to another agency, a loss of about €3 million in agricultural road works due to incomplete paperwork, the unresolved mycotoxin health problem despite three council interventions, safety concerns on the long beach following police alerts, delays in the Bocha‑li works because required permits have not been secured, and a chronic water‑supply problem that has driven costs sharply higher. The group noted that these matters have been presented to the council four times and called for transparency, concrete projects, and accountability, stating “Δύναμη Ελπίδας θα συνεχίσει να αναδεικνύει τα προβλήματα του τόπου και να διεκδικεί λύσεις”.
