Zalaegerszeg launches autonomous vehicle road test
The city of Zalaegerszeg will soon see two autonomous test vehicles operating on designated public streets. The vehicles are marked with "AUTONOMOUS VEHICLE" signage in green‑white and green‑black colors and will be supervised at all times by a qualified safety driver who can take control if needed.
The trial is led by Balaicz Zoltán, project manager of Autóipari Próbapálya Zala Kft., and aims to develop electric, demand‑responsive and self‑driving transport systems together with the necessary digital infrastructure. Mobileye Global Inc. provides the autonomous driving technology, while TÜV Rheinland handles the technical validation. The test will start on fixed routes, with the area potentially expanded as data are collected. Long‑term goals include improving safety of autonomous systems and laying groundwork for future robotaxi services.
