European autonomous vehicle technology trials
Overview
Testing of autonomous vehicle technologies is expanding across Europe, ranging from urban transport to industrial logistics.
In Zalaegerszeg, Hungary, a project led by Autóipari Próbapálya Zala Kft. has initiated road tests using two autonomous vehicles on designated public streets. These vehicles, utilizing Mobileye Global Inc. technology, are supervised by safety drivers to develop electric, demand-responsive transport systems and prepare for future robotaxi services.
Further developments include industrial and passenger trials in Germany and the Netherlands. Actemium Handling Solutions has begun testing outdoor Automated Guided Vehicles (AGVs) in Essen, Germany, to transport heavy materials. Simultaneously, a self-driving shuttle bus pilot program has launched at the Efteling theme park in the Netherlands, operated by Dutch Automated Mobility in collaboration with Arriva, to connect park accommodations and public transport hubs.
