Zalazje, Bosnia marks 34 years since 1992 Serb massacre

On June 28, 2026, a ceremony in Zalazje near Srebrenica commemorated the 34th anniversary of the 1992 killing of 69 Serbian civilians and soldiers in the villages of Sase, Zalazje, Biljaca and Zagoni. The victims included 22 missing persons, ten of whom were exhumed from a mass grave in 2011 and later identified and buried.

The event was attended by Republika Srpska Deputy President Petko Rančić, BiH Serb MP Marko Milisav and RS Transport Minister Zoran Stevanović, who stressed that the victims must not be forgotten and called for peace and reconstruction. The government completed a road reconstruction from Srebrenica to Zalazje to facilitate visits to graves. No one has been held criminally responsible for the killings, which were carried out by Muslim forces under Naser Orić as part of a broader ethnic‑cleansing campaign.
