Zalău Museum to host oral history event on city's past

The Zalău County Museum of History and Art, in collaboration with the ‘Tinerețe fără bătrânețe’ Day Center for the Elderly, is organizing a round table discussion titled ‘Memories of Zalău and the National Day of August 23’. The event is scheduled for August 25, 2026, at the House of Culture of the Trade Unions in Zalău.

The initiative aims to reconstruct the local history of Zalău by combining documented archival information with the personal testimonies of citizens who lived through the communist era. The discussion will focus on how the city celebrated the August 23 National Day, covering aspects such as parades, festivities, and the daily atmosphere of the period. According to historian Dr. Marin Pop, the goal is to use these personal accounts to provide a more complete understanding of the city's transformations and how official events were perceived by ordinary people.
