Zambia ACC arrests journalist and welfare officer over K5.6m corruption
The Anti-Corruption Commission (ACC) has arrested and charged Chimangeni Banda, a Senior News Editor at the Zambia News and Information Services (ZANIS), and Veronica Chisanga Kabwe, an Executive Officer at the Ministry of Community Development and Social Services.
The two suspects face joint charges for the possession and concealment of properties valued at over K5.6 million, which are suspected to be proceeds of crime. The alleged offenses occurred in the Lusaka District between January 2020 and December 2025. The joint charges involve two residential properties—a semi-detached three-bedroom house and a four-bedroom house—with a combined value of K3.27 million.
Kabwe faces nine additional separate counts regarding the possession and concealment of other assets. These include three motor vehicles (a Toyota Hilux, a Toyota Dyna light truck, and a Toyota RAV4) valued at approximately K1 million, as well as government bonds and funds totaling K1,346,578. The suspects have been released on bond and are expected to appear in court soon.
