Corruption investigations in Zambia
Overview
The Zambian Anti-Corruption Commission (ACC) has conducted several arrests involving officials from the Ministry of Community Development and Social Services.
In early October 2026, a senior news editor and an executive officer at the ministry were charged with possessing and concealing properties valued at over K5.6 million, suspected to be proceeds of crime. These charges involve residential houses and motor vehicles allegedly acquired between 2020 and 2025.
Shortly after, the ACC arrested a former project accountant at the same ministry for the alleged diversion of K44,657,600. The funds, intended for the Social Cash Transfer (SCT) Programme to assist vulnerable households, were reportedly diverted through transactions to the Itezhi-Tezhi District Welfare Assistance Committee between May 2025 and August 2026. The accountant faces charges including conspiracy to defraud the government and theft by public servant.
