Zambia breaks ground on US$1.6 billion urea plant expansion
President Hakainde Hichilema officiated the groundbreaking ceremony for United Capital Fertilizer’s (UCF) US$1.6 billion urea plant expansion project in Lusaka West, Zambia.
During the event, Hichilema issued a warning to public officials, stating he would be “ruthless” against civil servants who frustrate the execution of government projects or delay investments. He emphasized that his administration’s priority is serving Zambia’s 21 million citizens rather than maintaining popularity among public officials. The President noted that administrative and procurement delays deny citizens employment opportunities and hinder national development, urging citizens to report officials responsible for such bottlenecks.
