Zambia repatriates citizens and deports 193 foreign nationals
The Zambian Department of Immigration has reported several significant repatriation and deportation events. Two Zambian women have been returned home from India after seeking refuge at the Zambian Embassy following allegations of labor and sexual exploitation. The women had traveled to India in July 2026 for employment but reportedly encountered conditions different from those originally agreed upon.
In a separate mass operation in Lusaka, immigration authorities removed 193 foreign nationals from the country. The group consisted of 164 Burundians, 22 Tanzanians, four Rwandans, and three Ugandans. Some individuals were removed following court-imposed fines for immigration offenses, while others were removed through administrative procedures.
Additionally, a Zambian male national was deported from Dubai, United Arab Emirates, for overstaying his authorized visit period. The individual had been working as a technician at Amazon before his deportation. In response to these events, Immigration Chief Public Relations Officer Namati Nshinka urged Zambians seeking work abroad to verify employment contracts and the legitimacy of employers to avoid exploitation.
