Zimbabwean repatriation from South Africa

Overview

Zimbabwean authorities have reported a significant decline in the number of nationals returning from South Africa. As of early October, over 197,000 Zimbabweans have returned, comprising 42,553 through government-assisted arrangements and 154,741 via independent means.

Acting Information Minister Paul Mavima stated that the government is coordinating the reception and reintegration of these citizens. This process involves managing deportees from South Africa’s Lindela Repatriation Centre at the Beitbridge Reception and Support Centre. The reintegration efforts also include screening individuals who are convicts required to serve the remainder of their sentences in Zimbabwe.
