Zambézia cultural anthology launched in Maputo

The BCI auditorium in Maputo hosted the launch of ‘Almoço à Zambeziana – Escrever a Zambézia, Volume I’, an anthology dedicated to preserving the cultural identity and collective memory of the Zambézia province. The work features stories, testimonies, and cultural expressions contributed by over thirty collaborators.

The project is the first result of the ‘Escrever a Zambézia’ movement, conceptualized by academic and literary critic Almiro Lobo. The initiative aims to rescue the history, customs, and knowledge of the region to prevent collective amnesia and ensure these experiences are passed to future generations.

Attendees included BCI Board Chairman Carlos Agostinho do Rosário and Executive President José Furtado, alongside various writers, academics, and artists. During the event, Lobo emphasized the urgency of fixing these memories in writing, while do Rosário noted the importance of books in allowing memories to ‘travel through time’.
